About Darius RuckerDarius Rucker rose to national prominence as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Hootie & The Blowfish. Formed at the University of South Carolina in the early nineties, Hootie & The Blowfish released five albums and charted five top 15 singles between 1994 and 2008. The band's major label debut, Cracked Rear View, was the best selling album of 1995 and one of the best selling albums of all-time. In 2002, Rucker released his first solo album, Back to Then. The R&B record struggled to gain a foothold on the charts although the track, "This is My World," was featured on the Shallow Hal soundtrack. In 2008, Rucker began a career as a country musician with the release of "Don't Think I Don't Think About It." The single eventually went to the top of the country music charts. He followed that with two more number one singles, "It Won't Be Like This For Long," and "Alright." All three songs were included on his 2008 album, Learn To Live. Two years later, Rucker released Charleston SC 1996. Like its predecessor, Charleston SC 1996 went to number one on the Top Country Albums chart. The opus produced two more number one country singles, "Come Back Song" and "This." As an African-American musician who's preformed in predominately white musical genres, Rucker has been a trail blazer his entire career. With Hootie & The Blowfish, Rucker fronted a rock band comprised of white musicians—it's usually the other way around. Rucker's "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" was the first number one country single by an African-American artist since Charlie Pride's 1983 hit, "Night Games." Rucker won the 2009 Country Music Association award for New Artist of the Year. He was just the second African American performer to ever win a CMA award, Pride was the other. Rucker is an ardent fan of the Miami Dolphins and close friends with Tiger Woods. He met Woods at a bar when the latter was 18. The singer performed with Hootie & The Blowfish at the golfer's wedding and also sang at the funeral of Woods' father.
