Daniel Tosh Biography
Comedian Daniel Tosh was born in Germany, but grew up in Titusville, Florida, a rearing to which he attributes his comedic skills due to Florida being "flat, hot and dumb." After graduating from college, the preacher's son headed west to Los Angeles in the late 1990s.
Tosh eventually got noticed on the comedy scene in 2001 after a performance on the Late Show with David Letterman. It was all gravy after that as he followed Letterman with appearances on both The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live! It wasn't long before Comedy Central took notice.
In 2003, Tosh's 30-minute special aired as an episode of Comedy Central Presents. A few years later, his stand-up special, Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious, also got some air time. After that, he was called on to host other shows for the network, including Live at Gotham.
At some point, someone thought it a clever notion to give Tosh his own show. According to the funny man, it all panned out in an email: “Comedy Central owed me money, and they didn't want to pay it to me without doing something in return. We had tried to do a couple shows that failed in concept, and so they sent me an email -- I saved the email -- and it was about four lines saying, 'Do a show about the internet. Make our website a little more relevant, but not like a talk show.' So, we did that... that's how the show came about. And it continues to morph into whatever we want it to be.”
After signing a multi-level deal with Comedy Central, Tosh got that television show (Tosh.0), along with a hopping blog, a 2010 concert tour (aptly titled The Tosh Tour Twenty Ten), and a comedy special that was captured in spring 2010 in San Francisco. In addition to being broadcast, the performance is also set for CD and DVD release.
Also in 2010, Tosh's massively successful TV show was contracted for a third season. The show focuses on the viral videos and clips that are popular on the Internet. Tosh adds his unique brand of commentary and a laugh riot ensues. Tosh.0 also features a segment called “Web Redemption” that allows the subjects of famous, but embarrassing videos to attempt to redeem themselves.
