Justin Drew Bieber was born March 1, 1994 and is a Canadian pop/R&B singer. Bieber signed a record deal with Island Records, where he began his professional career. And Bieber was named the hottest star of 2009 by J-14, newcomer of the year by MuchMusic, and listed by Celebuzz as one of the Top 10 YouTube stars of the decade.
YouTube is a powerful force. And Justin Bieber is living proof of it. Having seen Bieber's YouTube videos, music mogul Scooter Braun signed on his manager and brought him down to Atlanta. After a meeting with Usher, Braun secured Bieber a contract at Island Records and a star was born.
In 2006, having taught himself how to play a number of instruments, including piano, trumpet, drums, and guitar, Bieber started singing when he entered a local competition in his hometown, Stratford, Ontario. As his performances began to shine, Bieber's mother thought it would be nice to post clips on YouTube to share with relatives who couldn't see him live. Some of the clips found young Justin singing songs by his favorite R&B artists, like Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Usher, and others.
Braun saw the videos and put the wheels in motion. Braun connected Bieber to Usher who connected him to L.A. Reid who inked the deal with Island Records in October, 2008. Timberlake's label was also in the running to sign him.
Four singles were released before the album ever came out: “One Time” (with guest vocals by Usher), “One Less Lonely Girl,” “Love Me,” and “Favorite Girl.” All four tracks made it into Canada's Top 15 and Billboard's Top 40 in the States. Bieber was the first artist to ever have so much success prior to an album's release.
