About the New York Mets
In 2009, the New York Mets moved to Citi Field, their first new home in 45 years. The Mets are aligned in the National League's East Division. Over the years the team has had heated rivalries with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves. With the advent of inter-league play in 1997, their inter-city rivalry with the Yankees finally manifested itself on the field.
In fact, the two Big Apple teams met in the 2000 World Series which was won by the Yankees in five games. Prior to their "Subway Series" defeat, the Mets had won two World Series titles. The "Miracle Mets," with hall of famer Tom Seaver, won the 1967 series and thanks to Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner committing baseball's most famous error, Mets won the 1986 series. Today the Mets feature ace Johan Santana and all-star David Wright.
