CB Alan Ball pushing for starting spot in defensive backfield Chicago Bears cornerback Alan Ball fits the prototype for the new age defensive back, tall and lengthy with a physical nature, and now that he is 100% healthy, he been making a move for a starting spot.
Ball, 6'2, has the size the team needs in order to play more man coverage and his experience (22 starts and three interceptions the last two seasons with the Jaguars) is pushing towards a starting position.
"Much like some of our defensive backs in the offseason, we got them better, they had offseason surgeries," coach John Fox said, via ESPN.
"He was one of them. So he didn't get a lot of time there, so he started to get more and more time. He's getting more and more healthy and that in turn gives him more time.
"He's a guy we obviously like because we signed him in free agency."
Eddie Royal joins the list of injured Bears receivers I guess the saying: when it rains, it pours is true, especially for the Chicago Bears.
Eddie Royal is the latest Bear receiver to be put on the disabled list, as coach Fox said he is day-to-day with a hip injury. Fox said he doesn’t anticipate the injury being long-term, but that doesn’t mean much considering he said Kevin White’s injury was day-to-day and he could be lost for the entire season.
With the injury to Royal, it means that all four starting wide receivers for the Bears are injured. With all four starting receivers out, it means that guys like Marc Mariani, Josh Bellamy, Rashad Lawrence and Cameron Merideth will see extended time.
The reason this injury makes me a little nervous is because Royal has had problems with his hip in the past. Back in 2011 Royal had hip surgery, so I’m hoping he just tweaked something and is actually day-to-day.
With the injuries mounting up, I think the Bears should strongly consider adding another veteran wide receiver like Wes Welker. ...
Questions about Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler’s leadership will never go away One thing you have to like about Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett (and his brother) is that he says whatever comes into his head at any given moment. You don’t get lame rehearsed sports cliches (like his brother’s quarterback), you get the genuine article.
Recently Bennett made some waves an in interview with Chicago Magazine, wherein he appeared to criticize Cutler’s leadership:
“Why does everyone always assume the quarterback is the leader?” Bennett asks. “Leading the offense and leading the team are two different things. Sometimes I like Cutty, and sometimes I don’t…”
After practice yesterday Cutler responded to Bennett’s comments and claimed everything is fine between him and Benett, no matter what he says. Here’s what Cutler told Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune:
“Marty came down to Nashville (earlier in the summer). We’ve worked really closely these last couple, three or four weeks just because he’s been gone (during the offseason). I talked to Marty today. I’v
It’s Pat! Browns sign former Delaware quarterback Pat Devlin With Johnny Manziel on the shelf and the Browns quarterback situation in perpetual disarray, Cleveland has added to their stable of shrugs Thursday morning by signing former Delaware quarterback Pat Devlin.
At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Devlin has the stature to play quarterback in the NFL, but has failed to make much of his gifts. Browns fans may know Devlin most as the kid who bolted from Penn State after leading the Nittany Lions in a fourth-quarter win over the Buckeyes in 2008, transferring out before the 2009 Bowl season.
Devlin, 27, comes to Cleveland after having a cup of coffee in Chicago with the Bears1. Heavily hyped during the run-up to the 2011 draft (He deserves a legitimate shot!), Devlin was not selected and has been bouncing around the league ever sincesince. He was waived by the Vikings this past April, couldn’t crack the 90-man in Chicago and has never been more than a third-string play-caller who made most of his “career” with the Miami Dolphins from 2011-2014. At th...
