About the Detroit Tigers
In 1984, the Detroit Tigers, managed by hall of famer Sparky Anderson, started the season 35-5. They would go on to win 104 games that year and win the club's third World Series title. That team featured a slew of great players including shortstop Alan Trammell and second baseman Lou Whitaker. Trammell and Whitaker played together for 19 seasons making them the longest running double play combination in the history of baseball.
The Tigers formed in 1894 and joined the American League as a charter member in 1901. Since 2000, the club has called Comerica Park their home. Detroit, which is led by Magglio Ordóñez and Brandon Inge play, in the American League's Central Division.
