About the Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies hold two unique records. They are the oldest, continuous, one-name, one-city franchise in North American professional sports. The team was founded in 1883 as the Quakers but since 1884 they've been known as the Phillies. The second unique, but rather dubious, record held by the Phillies is the most losses of any major professional sports franchise on the continent.
The Phils are aligned in the National League East Division and they play at Citizens Bank Park. The team is represented in the hall of fame by several players including Richie Ashburn, Steve Carlton, and Mike Schmidt. The current Phillies team is led by Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins. Those players, managed by Charlie Manuel, were integral parts of the team that won the 2008 World Series title. Prior to that, the Phillies only other championship came in 1980.
