About the Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals represent the capital city of the United States but they began life as Canada's first major league baseball team. The franchise now known as the Nationals was founded in 1969 as the Montreal Expos. In 1994, the Expos had baseball's best record before a strike canceled the season and the World Series.
Two Expos have been inducted into the hall of fame, Gary Carter and Andre Dawson. In 2002, MLB purchased the struggling franchise. Three years later the league relocated the team to Washington D.C. and renamed them the Nationals. After three seasons at RFK Memorial Stadium, the franchise moved into Nationals Park in 2008. Aligned in the East Division of the National League, the "Nats" are led by Adam Dunn and pitcher Stephen Strasburg.
