If you're a center you probably don't want to play for the Portland Trail Blazers. The franchise drafted UCLA star Bill Walton with the first overall pick in the 1974 draft. With Walton clogging up the middle, the Trailblazers won the 1977 NBA Championship. The following year, Portland won 50 of their first 60 games before Walton left the lineup with an injury. He returned for the playoffs only to re-injured himself. With no Walton, the Blazers were ousted from the playoffs by the Seattle SuperSonics in six games. In the offseason, Walton demanded a trade and accused the Blazers of mistreated him and other injured players. A trade wasn't granted so a defiant Walton sat out an entire year. In the 1984 draft, the Blazers selected center Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. Widely noted as the worst draft pick in the history of the National Basketball Association, Bowie's five-year career with the Blazers was marred by injuries. He played just 63 games over his last four seasons with the franchise. In 2007, the team picked center Greg Oden first overall. Like Bowie, Oden was besieged by injuries. He had three micro-fracture surgeries on his knee and in his first four seasons with the Trail Blazers, Oden played just 82 games.

The Blazers joined the NBA in 1970 and have one of the best fan bases in the league. From 1977 through 1995, Portland sold out their home venue 814 straight games. It's one of the longest streaks in the history of North American team sports. The Trail Blazers play their home games at the Rose Garden. They are aligned in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference with the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Utah Jazz. Some of the team's notable players over the years include Clyde Drexler, Maurice Lucas, Brandon Roy, Terry Porter, Dražen Petrovic, Buck Williams, and Arvydas Sabonis.
