About the Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens defeated the New York Giants 34-7 in Super Bowl XXXV (played in 2001 at the end of the 2000 season). The Ravens team of that year had one of, if not the best defense in the history of NFL. In the Super Bowl, Baltimore's D held the Giants to 152 yards of total offense, forced four sacks and caused five turnovers. All of the Giants’ possessions, except the last one which ended when the clock expired, resulted in a punt or an interception. The Ravens defense pitched a shutout, the Giants only touchdown came on a special teams play. If that wasn’t enough, linebacker Ray Lewis was named Super Bowl MVP. Other standouts on the defensive side of the ball that year included Rod Woodson, Sam Adams, Tony Siragusa, Duane Starks, and Peter Boulware.
According to the National Football League, the Ravens are an expansion team that entered the NFL in 1996. In actuality, they are the Cleveland Browns franchise. Since the Browns were such a fixture in Cleveland, the NFL let Art Modell take his players and staff to Baltimore but not the team’s name, logo, colors, and statistics. All that stuff remained in Cleveland, and the franchise technically started anew in Baltimore. The city of Baltimore was home to the Colts but lost that franchise when they moved to Indianapolis in the middle of the night in 1984. The Ravens are aligned in the AFC North with their rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals. Ravens play their home games at M&T Bank Stadium.
