About the Green Bay Packers
The history of the Green Bay Packers is basically the history of the National Football League. The franchise ushered in the Super Bowl era with victories in Super Bowl I and II. That Packers team was coached by the legendary Vince Lombardi. His name now adorns the trophy handed to the winning team of the Super Bowl. The Packers won additional Super Bowls in 1997 (XXXI) and 2011 (XLV). Bart Starr quarterbacked the Packers in Super Bowl I and II. Brett Favre quarterbacked the team to victory in Super Bowl XXXI and his replacement, Aaron Rodgers, took the team all the way in 2011.
The Packers were established in 1919 and are the oldest team in the NFL that hasn't relocated or changed its name. The team's home stadium is Lambeau Field located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Although never uttered in an NFL Films production, Green Bay's home stadium is playfully referred to as the "frozen tundra." Green Bay is the smallest media market in the National Football League and there's a long waiting list for season tickets. Besides the aforementioned players and coach, other Green Bay legends include Ray Nitschke, Don Hutson, Forrest Gregg, Jim Taylor, Herb Adderley, and Donald Driver. The Pack are part of the NFC North with their arch rivals the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings. The Packers-Bears rivalry is the oldest in the NFL and one of the league’s best.
