About the New Orleans Saints
For years, the New Orleans Saints were known as the "Aints. It took the franchise 13 years to finish at least .500 and 21 years to post a winning record. Their first playoff win didn't come until 2000. The epithet "Aints" was put in the rear-view mirror for good in 2009. That year, the Saints reached the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. The team was playing for more than just the Lombardi Trophy; they were playing for the city of New Orleans who was still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In Super Bowl XLIV, the Saints scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17. Saints quarterback Drew Brees was named the game’s MVP. Afterwards, cameras caught Brees holding his son while confetti rained from the roof of Sun Life Stadium. The moment has become one of the NFL's most indelible images.
The Saints entered the league in 1967. They are now aligned in the NFC South with rivals the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints call the Mercedes-Benz Superdome home. The venue is located in New Orleans, Louisiana and suffered major damage during the previously mentioned Hurricane Katrina. It was repaired for an estimated $185 million. Some of the better Saints players over the years include Archie Manning, Deuce McAllister, Willie Roaf, Joe Horn, and La'Roi Glover.
