About St Louis Blues
On May 12, 1986 the St. Louis Blues were staring into the abyss of elimination. They were down three-games-to-two to the Calgary Flames in the conference finals and trailing 5-2 with just 12-minutes left in Game 6. Suddenly, there was a glimmer of hope when Blues team captain Brian Sutter lit the lamp. That was followed by a goal from right winger Greg “Mud†Paslawski. The Blues now found themselves trailing 5-4 as the arena buzzed with anticipation. With less than 90 seconds remaining in the game, Paslawski stole the biscuit and took a bad angle-shot at the net. Somehow, someway, the puck found the back of the net. The Blues had tied the game! The St. Louis faithful went crazy. About seven and a half minutes into overtime, Wickenheiser smacked a rebound past the stymied net minder for the game-winner. The Blues had pulled off one of the National Hockey League’s greatest rallies. Their momentous comeback has gone down in NHL lore as the “Monday Night Miracle.†Unfortunately for the Blues and their fans, the team lost Game 7 in Calgary.
The Blues entered the NHL in 1967 when the league expanded from 6 to 12 teams. The Blues reached the Stanley Cup Finals in each of their first three seasons thanks to a playoff format that guaranteed that an expansion team would play an “Original Six†team for the title. Since the league changed its playoff format in 1971, the Blues have not reached the Stanley Cup Finals. The team plays in the Central Division of the Western Conference with the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, and Nashville Predators. Notable St. Louis Blues over the years include Brett Hull, Joe Mullen, Al MacInnis, Glen Hall, and Grant Fuhr. The team’s home venue is the Scottrade Center in downtown St. Louis.
