About tampa Bay Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning were ousted from the 2003 NHL Playoffs in the conference finals in five games by the New Jersey Devils. Despite not winning the Stanley Cup, it was a great year for “The Bolts.†They reached the playoff for the second time in club history and won their first ever playoff series. The following season, 2003-2004, the ‘Ning amassed a franchise-best 106 points and rolled through the first two rounds of the playoffs. They then needed seven games to get past the Philadelphia Flyers and reach the Stanley Cup Finals. Once there, the Lightning needed another seven games to dispatch the Calgary Flames and win the team’s first ever Stanley Cup. Ruslan Fedotenko was the Game 7 hero scoring both goals for Tampa in their dramatic 2-1 victory. Other stars of the Lightning’s championship team include Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, Nikolai Khabibulin, and Dave Andreychuck.
The Lightning were unable to immediately defend their title as the following season was cancelled by a NHL lockout. When the league returned in 2005-2006, the Tampa Bay Lightning were eliminated in the first round. They suffered the same fate the following season. After three years of missing the playoffs completely, the Lighting made it all the way back to the conference finals in 2011 only to lose to the eventual Stanley Cup champions, Boston Bruins. The Lighting entered the league in 1992 and they currently play their home games at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The team is aligned in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference with the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals, and Winnipeg Jets.
