About The Chivas USA

Club Deportivo Chivas USA, often referred to as C.D. Chivas USA or just Chivas, qualified for the postseason in just their second year of existence. In the franchise’s third year, Chivas posted a 15-7-8 record which was the best in the Western Conference. Their manager at the time, Preki, earned Coach of the Year honors while Brad Guzan won Goalkeeper of the Year. Unfortunately for Chivas and their faithful, they were quickly eliminated from the playoffs by Sporting Kansas City. Club Deportivo Chivas entered the MLS in 2005 as the league’s 11th franchise. The club was founded as the “little brother” of one of Mexico’s most popular teams, Guadalajara. Both teams share the nickname “chivas” which means “goats” in Spanish.

Chivas play their home games at The Home Depot Center. They share the facility with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The HDC is a soccer-specific stadium that seats 27,000. Located about ten miles south of downtown Los Angeles in the city of Carson, The Home Depot Center resides on the campus of California State University. Chivas’ supporters clubs include Union Ultras, who sit in section 101, and the Black Army 1850, who sit in section 138. There’s another supporters group, Legion 1908. They reside in Section 122. This is the Los Angeles chapter of the supporters club for the Guadalajara team. While there are about 1,500 register members in the L.A. area, only a couple dozen regularly show up at Club Deportivo Chivas USA games. Notable Chivas players over the years include Jonathan Bornstein, Brad Guzan, Juan Francisco Palencia, and Amado Guevara.
