Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Memorable songs include "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang",
"Truly Scrumptious", "Me Old Bamboo",
and "Toot Sweets"". The location for
Vulgaria was Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria.
A stage musical based on the book and movie was launched
at the London Palladium theatre in 2002. Despite some
initial problems with the mechanical flying Chitty used
in the show, it has enjoyed a very successful run.
The movie was referenced by United States Senator Orrin
Hatch during the June 23, 2004 discussion of the Inducing
Infringement of Copyrights Act, comparing illegal file
sharing on P2P networks, with stealing candy under the
guise of it being free.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Story
Caractacus Potts is an inventor who renovates an old
car which was previously three times a Grand Prix winner,
but had fallen in to disrepair.
After repairing the car, the Potts family, along with
Truly Scrumptious, head off to the beach for a picnic.
There, Caractacus confabulates upon a story of pirates
who are trying to steal Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which
becomes the central plot.
The pirates are headed by Baron Bomburst of Vulgaria,
who captures Grandfather Potts, takes him as hostage
and is chased by the Potts family.
Early curtain at 'Chitty Chitty
Bang Bang' Tickets
By Michael Kuchwara, AP Drama Writer | March 28,
NEW YORK -- Many Broadway shows have early Tuesday
curtains -- 7 p.m., instead of the usual 8 p.m. -- to
accommodate theatergoers who don't want to get home
too late on a work or school night.
Now, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," the child-friendly
musical that is in previews at Broadway's Hilton Theatre,
will expand that idea. The lavish show, adapted from
the 1968 movie about an eccentric inventor and his flying
car, will start evening performances at 7 p.m. Tuesdays
through Thursdays.
Curtain times for Friday and Saturday evenings performances
will remain at 8 p.m., and matinees are set at 2 p.m.
on Wednesdays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays.
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" has been a big
hit in London since 2002. The Broadway production, which
opens April 28, stars Raul Esparza as inventor Caractacus
Potts, Erin Dilly as the lovely and aptly named Truly
Scrumptious and Philip Bosco as Grandpa Potts.
