About Bon Jovi
"Shot through the heart and you're to blame/Darlin' you give love a bad name"
It's one of the most famous lyrics in the history of popular music and as soon as you hear the first couple of bars you know you're rocking out to Bon Jovi.
"You Give Love a Bad Name" is just one of several classic songs recorded by New Jersey's historic rock band, Bon Jovi. Other great songs from their repertoire include "Livin' on a Prayer," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "It's My Life," Bad Medicine," and "Have A Nice Day."
Bon Jovi formed in 1983. Since then the band's lineup has remained relatively static: lead singer and guitarist Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres. Bassist Hugh McDonald replaced Alec John Such in 1994.
The band released its self-titled debut in 1984. That album was followed b 7800 Fahrenheit (1985), Slippery When Wet (1986), and New Jersey (1988). These albums, especially Slippery When Wet, defined the hard rock sound of the 1980's and propelled Bon Jovi into super stardom.
After touring extensively throughout the late 1980's, the band took a break to pursue solo projects. They returned in 1992 with the album Keep the Faith and a world tour. Bon Jovi followed that successful endeavor with the release of These Days in 1995. Once again the band launched a world tour to support their album's release.
Keep The Faith and These Days were the only two studio albums the band released in 1990's--they combined to sell more than 22 million copies worldwide.
After the 126-show These Days Tour, Bon Jovi took an even longer break from recording and performing before releasing Crush in 2000. The album, which has sold over eleven million copies worldwide, featured the hit single "It's My Life." The band's next album, Bounce, debuted at number two. At the time, it was the band's best album debut ever.
The album, Have a Nice Day, also debuted at number two when it was released in and has since sold seven million copies. The album featured the hit singles "Have a Nice Day" and "Who Says You Can't Go Home." There was a version of the latter song that featured Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland. It was released to country music radio stations.
Their next offering, Lost Highway, which was greatly influenced by country music and recorded partly in Nashville, was the band's first album to debut at number one. Lost Highway also earned the Bon Jovi a 2008 Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Bon Jovi's 11th studio album, The Circle, debuted at number one and featured the single "We Weren't Born to Follow." Like they've done throughout most of their career, Bon Jovi supported the released of The Circle with a massive world tour. The band launched that tour in February of 2010.
Bon Jovi's sound runs the gamut of heavy metal, hard rock, rock, and country-rock. They are known for their great songwriting and their accessible lyrics. Bon Jovi's down-to-Earth quality has made them one of rock music's most popular bands.
