About DaughtryMay 10, 2006 may have been the end of Chris Daughtry's turn on American Idol, but it was far from the end of his turn on center stage. Chris has parlayed that fourth-place finish into a successful career. RCA Records snatched Chris up, put the eponymous band together, and released their eponymous debut in November, 2006. The CD went platinum in a mere five weeks earning accolades as the fastest selling rock debut in U.S. history and it topped the Billboard charts on week nine. Daughtry's success, measured against other AI contestants, comes in third behind champions Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Growing up in North Carolina and Virginia instilled a solid love of Southern rock in Chris. His early bands, Cadence and Absent Element, both found him front and center contributing lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Auditioning for AI in Denver, Daughtry squeaked through on a split decision, but eventually won Simon Cowell's approval with an edgy performance of Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)." Apparently, his rendition also won an invitation to join Fuel as their new lead singer which he declined. After making it to the Final Four on American Idol, Daughtry was eliminated in a surprising upset. Still, he had earned himself enough praise and respect to make appearances all over the talk-show circuit, including The Tonight Show and Ellen. Daughtry also went on to perform at big-time events like the Indianapolis 500 and win three American Music Awards in 2007. “It's Not Over” even nabbed a nomination for Best Rock Song as one of his four Grammy nods. His sophomore effort, Leave This Town, hit streets in July, 2009. When it hit number one on the Billboard charts, he sealed his place as the first AI contestant to have back-to-back chart toppers. Collaborations continue to play a big part in Daughtry's musical life. He's worked with everyone from Nickelback's Chad Kroeger to Timbaland to The African Children's Choir. In addition to Chris, the band's current line-up includes Josh Steely, Brian Craddock, Joey Barnes, and Josh 'JP' Paul.
