About the Mayhem Festival

The Mayhem Festival has three stages. The main stage is for headliners, heavy metal bands like Korn, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Slayer, and Slipknot. The remaining two stages (one or both are usually sponsored) have featured acts like Atreyu, Hatebreed, Trivium, Whitechapel, Five Finger Death Punch, and 36 Crazyfists.

The Mayhem Festival began in the summer of 2008. It was created by famous concert promoters Kevin Lyman and John Reese. Lyman founded the Vans Warped Tour and Reese works with Lyman on the Taste of Chaos tour. Rockstar Energy Drink was the festival's first title sponsor.

The annual must-attend summer festival for heavy metal fans features bands that have recently or are about to release albums. In addition to the three stages of great heavy metal music, the festival also features a freestyle motocross team, comedians, and scantily-clad female dancers. As it is with most festivals of this type, there are a bevy of displays, exhibitions, and booths hosted by sponsors. The festival generally plays between 25 to 30 shows and tours North America from mid-July to mid-August.

The 2008 Mayhem Festival resulted in injuries for two members of Slipknot. On the festival's opening night, Slipknot's turntablist, Sid Wilson, leaped from the stage and broke both his heels. Wilson was able to continue on with the tour but he needed casts for both of his feet. A few shows later, Slipknot's drummer, Joey Johnson, shattered his ankle. Yet despite all the carnage, Slipknot managed to miss nary a show on the schedule. However, they did cancel several European dates.
