About Bob Seger

During his 50-year career, Michigan native Bob Seger has assembled one of the greatest rock and roll catalogs of all-time. His captivating blend of roots rock combined with his indelible raspy singing voice has produced a bevy of hit singles that have dominated classic rock radio stations for decades. His long list of hits includes "Old Time Rock and Roll," "Night Moves," "Against the Wind," and "Like a Rock." Seger was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 but long before that he was a working class hero for an entire generation of music fans.

Seger got his start in the music scene of Detroit, Michigan. In the early and mid-sixties, Seger played in a number of bands including The Decibels, The Town Criers, The Omens, and The Last Heard. During this period Seger recorded several songs but none of them attained success outside of the Detroit-area. Seger's first big national hit was "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man." The song, released in 1968, came during a period when he fronted a band called The Bob Seger System. The success was short lived. In fact, things got so bad that after the band's next album Seger quit the music business and enrolled in college. He returned to rocking and rolling the following year and released one last album with The Bob Seger System. The critics liked the opus but it failed to sell. With the System disbanded, Seger embarked on a solo career. In 1971, he released a solo acoustic album called "Brand New Morning. It bombed.

Seger began to achieve national notoriety when he started working with a group of musicians that would later be known as the Silver Bullet Band. In 1975, with the help of this new backing band, Seger released Beautiful Loser. The album gave Seger his first wide-spread exposure since "Ramblin' Gamblin Man." Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band followed Beautiful Loser with a live album called Live Bullet. The opus was eventually certified 5x Platinum and is regarded as one of the best live albums of all-time. At last, Seger had the national success that had long eluded him. In October of 1976, Seger released the classic rock album, Night Moves. It was his first studio album to peak inside the top ten. For the next decade, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band dominated rock music with a string of great albums.

Seger was a prolific recording artist from the late-1960's through the early 1980's, but from 1986 to 2011 he released just five new studio albums. Part of the reason for this decrease in output was Seger's decade long hiatus from the music business—he took time off to be with his family. Seger returned to recording and performing in 2006. Since then he has embarked on several tours of the U.S. and Canada. Despite his advance age (Seger was born in 1945), he still maintains a reputation for putting on an unforgettable live show.
