Country music darling and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood was born and raised on a farm in Oklahoma. Carrie was born in 1983 on March 10th. Carrie Marie Underwood was destined to become a country music star.

Along with being a member of her local church, First Free Will Baptist, Carrie is also a member of the choir. Besides the choir and church, Carrie perfomed at many other functions and events when she was growing up. For example, she performed at the Robbins Memorial Talent Show, and at the local Lion's Club, Old Settler's Day and at other events in Checotah, Oklahoma.

Carrie attended many other shows in various states, such as Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas. She has performed opening acts for many artists as well. Carrie has done openings for Gene Watson, Diamond Rio and Earl Thomas Conley. Way before her American Idol breakout, Carrie was busy singing all over the U.S.

Carrie's first two albums, Some Hearts and Carnival Ride have number 1 hits and have sold many millions of copies.

In 2006, Carri's album Some Hearts got four Grammy nominations. She received two Grammy awards for "Best Female Country Vocal Performance" and "Best New Artist", while "Jesus, Take the Wheel" won "Best Country Song". Carrie Underwood's nomination was the first time an American Idol winner or contestant had been nominated in the "Best New Artist" category. Carrie Underwood was named Billboard's best country artist of the Billboard year 2007.

Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban will be heading to 24 cities on their "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride" tour. These two artists are hitting the country music charts by storm. They both are 2008 Grammy Award winners. What more of a reason is needed for them to tour together then that?

At her American Idol audition, Underwood revealed to the judges that her favorite singer is contemporary country recording artist Martina McBride. Throughout her time on American Idol, home videos were shown in which she sang "Independence Day", one of McBride's best known songs. Underwood also released her version of "Independence Day" as the B-side to her first #1 single, "Inside Your Heaven".

In addition to being a singer, Underwood is also a skilled guitar player, and has accompanied herself on guitar during performances of certain songs like "Don't Forget to Remember Me" and "Inside Your Heaven" during some of her live concerts, as well as on the albums. She uses a McPherson guitar, with an off-set sound hole.
