Keith Urban

Keith Lionel Urban (born October 26, 1967 in Whangarei, New Zealand) is a New Zealander - Australian country singer who is now highly successful in the United States.

Urban began to learn the guitar while living in Australia at age 6 and dropped out of high school at age 15 to pursue music. He moved to the U.S. with two of his bandmates named The Ranch in 1992. The Ranch's debut album was critically praised but failed to gain commercial success. The members parted ways not long afterwards.

Following the break-up of his band, Keith resorted to drug abuse. After two years, he checked into rehab and cleaned up.

Keith was asked to play as a session musician on albums such as Garth Brooks' Double Live and Dixie Chicks' Fly, after the band's demise.

In 1999 he released his self-titled debut album as a solo artist. "Rollercoaster" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2001 for the best country instrumental category. Keith Urban, went platinum in the U.S. His first major album was released in 2002, Golden Road went platinum in several countries and approaching triple platinum in the U.S. In 2004 Be Here was released and nominated for best country album at Grammy Awards and at the Academy of Country Music Awards. He has also released Days Go By, a greatest hits collection, in Europe.

Keith has received greater attention by touring with his friend Kenny Chesney. 2004 and 2005 represent big things for Keith Urban. He embarked on his first headlining tour, "Be Here", with tourmate, the up-and-coming Katrina Elam. He also did his first-ever headlining tour of his homeland, Australia, titled the "Alive in '05" Tour. His live concert DVD filmed at the Wiltern in Los Angeles releases on September 27, 2005.

He appeared in the Live 8 Philadelphia concert on July 2nd 2005.

The Gap chose Keith to appear in their "Favorites" campaign. Print ads start August 2005 in major magazines such as Vanity Fair. Television commercial ads are slated to hit the U.S. beginning August 28, 2005. He will cover "Most People I Know Think That I'm Crazy" by Billy Thorpe.
