Daytona 500 Tickets
The very first Daytona 500 was held on Feb. 22, 1959. Legendary driver Lee Petty won the inaugural Daytona race but his victory was not without controversy. Petty and second place finisher Johnny Beauchamp crossed the finish line at what appeared to be the same time. They were so close that Daytona 500 race officials had to review photos and film to determine a winner. However, there was a problem. A lapped car driven by Joe Weatherly was crossing the finishing line at the same time as Petty and Beauchamp and his car blocked the view of the photo finish camera. After days of scouring the visual evidence Petty was finally awarded the victory.
Since that inaugural race, fans with Daytona 500 tickets have experienced one thrill after another. "The Great American Race" is not only one of the most popular races in the United States it's also one of the country's most popular sporting events. The "Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing" is held annually in late-February at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It's the crown jewel of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and is the one race every driver wants to win. NASCAR fans clamor for tickets for the Daytona 500 with many spending weeks at track enjoying all the events leading up to the big race.
As the name suggests, the Daytona 500 is a 500-mile long race. It's also the largest purse of the season. Unlike other sports that have their premier event at the end of the season, the Daytona 500 kicks off NASCAR's Spring Cup Series.
Richard Petty holds the record for the most Dayton 500 wins with seven. Cale Yarborough is second with four victories. There's a three-way tie for third place among Bobby Allison, Dale Jarrett, and Jeff Gordon—each driver has taken the checkered flag three times.
