Hall of fame pitcher Nolan Ryan recorded his 5,000th strikeout, his 300th win, and his sixth and seventh no-hitters as member of the Texas Rangers. President George W. Bush served as the franchise's managing general partner from 1989 to 1994. In 2001, the Rangers signed shortstop Alex Rodriguez to a 10-year contract worth $252 million; it was the most lucrative deal in the history of baseball.
Unfortunately, the Rangers have another claim to fame, albeit a notorious one. As of 2010, they are the oldest professional sports team in North America that has never won a championship. The Rangers are aligned in the West Division of the American League. The team, which features all-stars Josh Hamilton and Michael Young, play at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
