About Glee Live in Concert
Premiering its pilot episode during American Idol in May, 2009, was a smart move for the producers of Glee. The Fox series revolving around a high school glee club in Ohio called New Directions capitalized on America's current passion for music, slaking that thirst with weekly musical performances embedded in a sitcom.
Glee's first season officially kicked off on September 9, 2009. The reception by viewers was so warm, the network gave the show a greenlight less than two weeks later. Four months later, during a production hiatus, Fox promised a second season would also be forthcoming.
Creator Ian Brennan originally envisioned as a film based on his experiences in his high school's choir. After crafting a script, Brennan was eventually able to get it into the hands of Ryan Murphy who, along with his Nip/Tuck mate Brad Falchuk, suggested the idea be adapted for television. Fox jumped on the project immediately.
Glee's music is a balance of show tunes and pop hits so there's something for everyone. The songs are released each week on iTunes and full albums are also planned. The series won a Golden Globe Award in early 2010 for Best Comedy Series. Cast members also racked up three additional nominations.
Branching the brand out even further by taking the show on the road, Glee: Live! In Concert will be touring theaters in 2010.
