About The Drowsy Chaperone Musical
Drowsy Chaperone which features a Tony-winning book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and a Tony-winning score by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. It was a sleeper hit at the 1999 Toronto Fringe Theatre Festival. The Drowsy Chaperone was written and composed by Canadians, and is the country's most successful Broadway musical.
Act one begins with The Man in Chair, a mousy, vaguely depressive Broadway fanatic whose coping mechanism involves listening repeatedly to a recording of a 1928 stage show, The Drowsy Chaperone. What follows is a pastiche of every clichéd plot thread ever written, including mistaken identity, spit-takes, and gangsters on the lam, involving such campy characters as an all-knowing English butler, a Latino Lothario, and a daffy, cartwheeling heroine.
